Having Good Basketball Attitude and Mentality Can Help Make You a Winner

Basketball is not just a physical sport as it also involves psychological attitude and mentality towards the game that can help you become a winner. Although this does not necessarily mean you will be winning all of your game, it will however give you an edge.

Talent vs Skill – talent is an innate attribute a person is born with. A talented person does not have to work hard or struggle to attain a level that regular people will take time to acquire. However, the problem with talent is that not all are born with the same type, and many are even struggling to find what their talent really is. Skill on the other hand can be developed through hard work and perseverance. Very few people have this kind of attitude as they easily get frustrated if they don’t reach their goal. If you can get passed this frustration and attempt to gain a level slowly, you will without doubt develop the skill you are so passionate about.

The truth is even talented people should practice just as hard to even further develop their game. Sadly, not so many do so as they find practice to be tedious and tiresome because their level of play is already enough to beat most of their opponents. This is a sad situation as talent is wasted on pride and laziness.

Extra Training to Get Better – this is a great attitude to make yourself better in the sport. Whether you are involved in a team that practices drills, or just a regular basketball player who plays for fun, it is important to take some time for yourself to practice drills to get better. This will not only help you develop skill, but it will also make you a formidable player. It is also important to treat practice as if it were a real game so that you don’t feel overwhelmed when you have defenders keeping a close guard on you.

Cool, Calm, and Confidence – many players find practice to be easy and could perform many of their practiced moves and shots. However, on a real game, they find themselves feeling the pressure and their nervousness is starting to influence and affect their game. This makes it important to have the attitude of being cool and calm in a game and having confidence in your game playing level. Breathing slowly, stretching, and warming-up will help to alleviate this pressure. It is also important not to think of the people around you and just focus on your game.

The Will to Win – when faced with better and tougher opponents, it is the will to win that will help take your game to another level. Never be disappointed that you are facing better players and that your team’sdefeat is inevitable. This is a fact of life as there will always be someone who is better than you. However, it is important to keep in mind your team is not defeated until the final whistle. Until then you should focus on how you can score as this will help add a level to your game the next time you will be facing better and tougher opponents.
